Hurricane Dean leaves 9 dead in Haiti

The storm has also destroyed 1,167 homes, left 8,244 homeless and caused serious damages to the nation's agriculture, Haitian officials said.

Hurricane Dean has left nine people dead, 25 injured and one missing in Haiti, according to authorities.

The storm has also destroyed 1,167 homes, left 8,244 homeless and caused serious damages to the nation's agriculture, Haitian officials said.

The worst hit area in Haiti was Chardonieres in the south, where three people were killed.

Dean also killed six people in the Dominican Republic, two in Dominica, two more in Jamaica and one in St Lucia.

Dean reached the Mexican area of Tecolutla in the eastern state of Veracruz on Wednesday. It is expected to reach Mexico's Western Sierra Madre and cause rains in 20 of Mexico's 32 states. There were no reports of death in Mexico so far.
