Three persons were killed a five others injured in a powerful bomb explosion in Kathmandu barely 200 metres from Singha Durbar, the official seat of Nepal government, on Monday.

The blast took place outside the central office of Nepal Oil Corporation, the government entity which enjoys monopoly over import and distribution of petroleum products, in Babar Mahal at 1:05pm.
Two persons died on the spot while another succumbed to injuries in hospital. The conditions of two of the injured are stated to be critical.

Soon after the blast, a person claiming to be spokesperson of Samyukta Jatiya Mukti Morcha, a previously unknown outfit, called up television channels and claimed responsibility.
Reports say that the person who identified himself as Biswo Kranti said the blast was in protest against recent hike in petrol prices. Nepal government had increased prices of petroleum products on Saturday.
