Kenya’s Justice Minister Martha Karua resigned from the government on Monday, saying her position was being undermined.

Kenya’s Justice Minister Martha Karua resigned from the government on Monday, saying her position was being undermined.Last week, President Mwai Kibaki appointed new judges without consulting Karua, according to local media.“My position as a minister is untenable following recent events,” she told reporters.

Karua, who has announced plans to run for presidency, has been critical of the east African country’s judiciary and called for Chief Justice Evans Gicheru to step aside to facilitate reforms.Kibaki has said he has full confidence in Gicheru.
