US President Barack Obama counts Prime Minister Manmohan Singh among five world leaders he calls friends. “I mean, I think if you ask them — Angela Merkel or Prime Minister Singh or President Lee or Prime Minister Erdogan or David Cameron would say we have a lot of trust and confidence in the president,” Obama said in an interview to Time magazine.

That was his answer to a question on whether he had forged a relationship with world leaders, as he is often criticised for being cool and aloof.

"The friendships and bonds of trust I’ve been able to forge... is precisely — or a big part of — what has allowed us to execute effective diplomacy,” he said.
Merkel is the German chancellor, Lee Myung-bak the South Korean president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan is Turkey’s prime minister and Cameron that of UK.
