Moderate quake hits Philippines: USGS

The quake, which hit at 3:51am (local time), was centred 71 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City on Mindanao Island, at a depth of 158 kilometers, the US Geological Survey said.

A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines early this morning, seismologists said.

The quake, which hit at 3:51am (local time), was centred 71 kilometers east-southeast of General Santos City on Mindanao Island, at a depth of 158 kilometers, the US Geological Survey said.

No tsunami warning was immediately issued.

The archipelago nation sits on the Pacific Ring of Fire where continental plates meet, causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
