Police helped Lars Vilks escape a furious crowd at Uppsala University during a lecture on the limits of free speech.

Vilks was unharmed but said on Wednesday that the incident raised concerns about the freedom of expression and that he's "ready to go up again."

The 53-year-old artist has faced numerous threats over his 2007 sketch of Muhammad with a dog's body.

US investigators say he was the target of an alleged murder plot involving Colleen Larose, an American woman who dubbed herself "Jihad Jane," and who now faces life in prison. She has pleaded not guilty.
