Pakistani president and army chief General Pervez Musharraf will be sworn in as a civilian president on Thursday, his spokesman said. "The president will take oath as a civilian president on the 29th," said the spokesman, Rashid Qureshi.
Pakistani opposition parties and the nuclear-armed country's Western allies have been urging Musharraf, who imposed emergency rule on November 3, to quit the army and become a civilian leader. Musharraf, who took power in a 1999 coup, won a presidential election by legislators on October 6.
