The number of swine flu deaths rose to nine in Colombia on Thursday, after a patient died in the northwestern city of Medellin, official said.

The patient, a woman who was hospitalized on July 13, died from the influenza A(H1N1) virus on Monday despite having received treatment, the Health Ministry said in a statement.
Since the swine flu was first detected in Colombia on May 3, 245 cases of infection have been confirmed. There are an additional 79 "probable" cases under investigation and 2,480 "suspected" cases, the ministry said.
