Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday condoled the death of eminent Indian parliamentarian Nirmala Deshpande, saying the region had lost an ardent peace activist.

"One of her passionate goals was to promote peace between Pakistan and India, for which she worked tirelessly and selflessly," Qureshi said in a message.

"In her death, the region has lost an ardent peace activist," Qureshi added.

Deshpande, a noted Gandhian and a member of Upper House of Indian Parliament, died in New Delhi on Thursday at the age of 79.

A five-member delegation including Information and Broadcasting Minister Sherry Rehman represented Pakistan at her funeral in New Delhi on Friday.
