Pakistan's deputy attorney general quits

Pakistan's Deputy Attorney General Abdul Hai Gilani resigned on Sunday to protest the "torturing of lawyers, locking up of High Court and tear-gas shelling in Lahore".

Pakistan's Deputy Attorney General Abdul Hai Gilani resigned on Sunday to protest the "torturing of lawyers, locking up of High Court and tear-gas shelling in Lahore".

"I have resigned from the post of Deputy Attorney General of Pakistan in protest against all these acts," Geo TV quoted Gilani as saying.

Gilani said the protesting Lawyers were tortured and tear-gas shells fired on them in the vicinity of Lahore high court.

Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif is leading a long march to demand the reinstatement of judges sacked two years back.
