The top leaders of the party on Friday decided to appoint Nanda Kishor Pun 'Pasang', who led many guerrilla battles against the state during the decade-old armed insurgency, as the new PLA chief.

With Prachanda becoming prime minister, the Maoist party now gets a new chief as well. Mohan Vaidya 'Kiran', who was arrested and jailed in India and belongs to the hardliner group, becomes new chief of the party organisation.
