The accident in Jiangsu province happened on the railway that will link China's largest city of Shanghai with the city of Nanjing 170 miles (270 kilometers) to the northwest, Xinhua News Agency said. The report did not have additional details. Workplace accidents are common in China, with thousands dying every year in part because of lax enforcement of safety rules and poor worker training.
Work-related deaths fell below 100,000 last year for the first time in more than a decade, amid an increased government focus on accident prevention.
