Emergency Ministry spokesman Vasily Khisamutdinov said on Saturday that the fire engulfed the five-story shopping mall in Ufa.

He said the fire started during construction in the building. Mall visitors have been evacuated, and the wounded have been hospitalised, he said.

Ufa is the capital of the oil rich, Volga River province of Bashkortostan.
