Russian troops arrive in China for joint anti-terror exercises

Russian troops on Saturday arrived at the Chinese station near Baicheng, the site of the joint Russian-Chinese exercises Peace Mission-2009, the Russian ground troops commander's aide Igor Konashenkov told Itar-Tass.

Russian troops on Saturday arrived at the Chinese station near Baicheng, the site of the joint Russian-Chinese exercises Peace Mission-2009, the Russian ground troops commander's aide Igor Konashenkov told Itar-Tass.

The Chinese train of 30 cars and platforms carried about 150 Russian servicemen, five units of armoured vehicles, 20 automobile units and equipment to the destination station, the spokesman said.

The last two Chinese trains with Russian personnel and weaponry will leave the Russian station of Grodekovo near Ussuriisk today night for China.

Other two trains that left Grodekovo earlier are on the way in China's territory to the destination.

The five trains will bring about 1,000 Russian servicemen and more than 160 units of vehicles and weaponry, including 70 tanks and armoured personnel carriers. Besides, about 20 planes and helicopters will fly from Russia to the Chinese aerodrome, the aide said. Approximately the same number of Chinese personnel and weapons will participate in the exercises, which will take place in Russia and China from July 22 to 26.
