Speaking at the closing news conference of a Group of Eight summit in northern France, Sarkozy said that the leaders had determined that Iran had used the uprisings in the Arab world to continue what Western countries believe is a programme to develop nuclear weapons - a charge Tehran denies.

"We shall take new measures to reinforce again sanctions against it," Sarkozy said.
