"A roadside bomb detonated in the morning near an Iraqi army patrol in the Bob al-Sham area in northern Baghdad and damaged a military vehicle, killing five soldiers and wounding another," an official said.
In southern Baghdad, mortar rounds landed on the Abu Dsheer neighbourhood, killing two people and wounding six.
Violence continued on Baghdad's streets despite five months of a US-Iraqi security plan aimed at reining in rampant violence in the Iraqi capital.
