Greek authorities say a train has smashed into a car trapped on rails near Athens, killing two elderly motorists and two men who were trying to get them off the lines.

No injuries have been reported on the train, which did not derail. A fire brigade statement says Friday's accident occurred at Kryoneri, on the northern fringes of Athens.
