British forces have detained two British nationals in Afghanistan, authorities in London said on Thursday, amid reports they were suspected of fighting with the Taliban.

"We can confirm that British forces have detained two individuals in Afghanistan who claim to be British nationals," the Ministry of Defence said in a statement. A spokeswoman refused to comment on the reports.
