The duo was released on bail by Colombo chief magistrate Nishantha Hapuarachchi.

The order came nearly five months after they gave themselves up before the security personnel on April 22 near Putumatalan, the then ‘no fire zone´ where the top LTTE leadership was holed up.

Velayutham Dayanithi alias Daya Master, former media coordinator of LTTE, and George, official interpreter of slain LTTE political head S P Thamilchelavan, were arrested immediately and taken to Colombo.

It was Daya Master who along with Velupillai Prabhakaran’s former aide Karuna, now a federal junior minister, identified the LTTE chief’s body after he was killed by security forces on May 18.

After they surrendered to the forces, both Daya Master and George appeared on the state television to say that LTTE used civilians as “hostages” never allowing them to flee the war zone and resorted to “mass killings” if they failed to heed.
