The US military says American soldiers have shot and wounded an Iraqi woman after she failed to heed warnings to stop near a Baghdad checkpoint.

The US military says American soldiers have shot and wounded an Iraqi woman after she failed to heed warnings to stop near a Baghdad checkpoint.
The US military said in a statement on Saturday that the woman was acting suspiciously and failed to stop after Iraqi and American troops warned her. The military says the soldiers fired two shots at the woman, wounding her.
The shooting occurred Thursday near a checkpoint in the central Baghdad neighborhood of Jadiriyah that has been the recent target of suicide bombers and car bombs.
The military says the woman was evacuated to a nearby hospital, and her condition was not immediately known.
The shooting is under investigation.
