A man raped a schoolgirl in Rewa district and repeatedly injured her private parts with a wooden stick in a gruesome reminder to the Delhi gang rape case, the police said on Monday.

The victim is battling for life at Sanjay Gandhi Hospital in Rewa, about 485 km east from Bhopal. The doctors said she was in a critical condition due to continuous bleeding from her body.

The suspect, identified as Abhishek Soni, 28, has been arrested, the police said.

The incident took place at a village in Rewa district. However, it was reported on Sunday as the girl didn’t disclose it to the family following an alleged threat by the accused.

The family came to know about the incident when the girl fell unconscious on Sunday. She was immediately rushed to hospital and the matter was reported to the police.

Investigation officer UP Singh said that victim was playing outside her school during the lunch break along with her friend when the accused lured them to his house about 200 metres away.

He asked on the girl to stay outside while took the victim inside, raped her and inserted the stick into her body, Singh said.

However, when the other girl spotted this, the suspect locked them up in his house and threatened to kill them if they revealed the incident to anyone, police sources said.

Meanwhile, a 5-year-old girl was allegedly raped on Sunday night by one Naresh Banjara,25, near her shanty in a village under Bilouwa police station, about 35 km from Gwalior.

She was rushed to KRH hospital in Gwalior where her condition was reported to be stable. Hospital sources said the victim was in a state of shock and was running fever. The suspect has been arrested, town inspector Ravi Bhadoria said.
