Deepika Padukone refutes rumours that suggested she had requested fellow actor Shah Rukh Khan to push the release date of his film to avoid a clash with hers. Bajirao Mastani, starring Deepika, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra, is likely to clash with SRK’s Dilwale this December.
However, Deepika, who was in Delhi for the launch of the song Deewani Mastani , clarified: “I have a very personal equation with Shah Rukh and I’d never do something like that. I was so busy working on my film that I had no time to get involved in this. As an actor, it’s important to do your part with honesty and conviction and leave the rest to professionals like producers and directors.” ‘
Deepika Padukone has stepped into period drama genre with Bajirao Mastani, but Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical love saga is turning out to be an arduous task for her. She claimed the film is “physically, mentally and emotionally draining”. “The film is definitely the toughest of my career. The film has been extremely draining, be it physically, mentally or emotionally. The nature of the movie and the director is very demanding,” Deepika said at the song launch.
For Deepika, the push by the director helps an actor push the envelope and get better in the craft. “He (Bhansali) is never happy with what he sees. He is very clear about what he wants from his actors and team. So, he pushes you and helps you discover something within yourself that you didn’t know existed,” the actress said. “He is a hard task master. You learn so much about yourself. It has been the most difficult experience, but in the end you feel it is worth it,” she added.
Bajirao Mastani is Deepika’s second outing with Bhansali after Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela where she also starred opposite Ranveer Singh. Bajirao Mastani narrates the love story of Maratha Peshwa Bajirao I (played by Ranveer Singh) and his second wife Mastani (Deepika). Priyanka Chopra plays Bajirao’s first wife Kashibai. The film is scheduled to release on December 18.
Although in her period film, the 29-year-old will be seen in grand ensembles, Deepika likes to dress simple in real life. “I don’t put an effort in dressing up on a daily basis. I like to feel comfortable, so I mostly wear loose clothes or jeans and T-shirts. Of late, I’ve been wearing gym-wear a lot,” says Deepika, who while in Delhi, walked the ramp for designer Anju Modi at a fashion event on Saturday, showcasing an outfit that portrays her look in Bajirao Mastani.
The actor calls herself fortunate to be in an industry where others take care of her style. “We’re constantly dressing up for a film or the red carpet, so we’re styled to perfection all the time,” she says.
