This beer school will make sure you never miss a class

This day-long beer school by a city brewery is perfect for the beer nerd in you

Though beer is one of the oldest beverages (dating back to fifth century BC) made by man, yet its wonders never cease to amaze us. Blame it on the beer high.

To satiate our thirst (for knowledge and otherwise), Lower Parel’s The Barking Deer has launched a beer school or day-long workshops on all things beer. Started by its founder Gregory Kroitzsh, the workshop will take participants through sessions on the history of beer, ingredients, a tour of the in-house brewery and the brewing process.

“Our patrons have always enjoyed the informal brewery tours that we’d conduct on request. Now, we wanted to give people something more by educating them about craft beers,” says Kroitzsh.

Your guide to beer

Apart from getting to sample all the beers made at the brewpub, students can learn about the different styles, ingredients and even cultural and religious significance of beer. Take for instance the IPA (Indian Pale Ale) — one of the most liked beers in India — which was created by the British by adding more hops to be able to withstand the gruelling Indian summer.

“One of the important aspects of beer drinking is to know how to pour it right. Students will learn how to pour their own beer from the tap, with the right amount of head,” adds Kroitzsh.

So who’s eligible to attend, we ask. “Any one of legal drinking age is eligible for the school and it’s particularly fun to enjoy the afternoon with your friends and family,” he says.

Apart from unlimited beer, there’ll be unlimited pizza, sliders and salad lunch. Because beer on an empty stomach is never a good idea.
