Schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will not have to remain open on Christmas; the board has clarified in a recent circular.

Although, the board has proposed to conduct a two-day expression series on December 24 and 25, students’ participation to the competition is voluntary and entries can be submitted online from home.

The competitions are meant to mark the birth anniversaries of two veteran politicians —Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya on December 25. The expression series on Malviya will be held on December 24, on which students will have to express their views on the topic, ‘Education for Future Development’.

On December 25, when Vajpayee will turn 90, students will write on what good governance means to them.

The circular issued by CBSE on December 22 states that since schools will be closed on account of Christmas vacation on these days, students willing to participate in the contest can submit their entries from home or any other place using online mode or through mobile phone.

At the end of the contest, 36 best entries in each category will be rewarded with a cash prize of Rs 2,000 and a certificate of merit. Students from CBSE affiliated schools from Classes 1 to 12 can participate.
