Elephant

Residents of Siliguri on Wednesday woke up to a fully grown elephant running amok on the streets in front of their houses. The people were helpless as the elephant continued to rampage the houses, compounds and sheds.

The adult elephant had come out of Baikantapur Forest at 6 am and reached Chainpara few km away and damaged some homes and cars. (Hindustan Times)
The elephant had reached City Plaza, a popular building on Sevok Road that houses many newspaper offices, showrooms and insurance companies. The forest department was trying to tranquilize it.
The elephant came from the nearby Baikanthapur forest and destroyed around 100-150 houses

Police had to resort to lathi charge to control the crowd . The pachyderm created panic when it reached busy Sevok Road and started marching near Payal Cinema hall. The Road remained closed and vehicles came to standstill.
