For the players of Grand Omaxe FC team from Sector 93- B, love for football is the unifying bond. Playing in the Hindustan Times Great Indian Football Action (HT GIFA) tournament for the first time, the team is full of excitement.
The team members will represent their residential complex ‘Grand Omaxe’ at the event—the ultimate football league for Delhi and the national capital region (NCR) that has become a calendar event for the residents, especially the sport lovers.
The team has been practising for the past three months for the tournament that will test the best from Delhi and NCR.
The team is being coached by a college student, Amin. Amin feels the love for club football has resulted in a deeper bond between the players.
“We love watching English Premier League and other club football tournaments. Our favourite team is FC Barcelona and it is the love for football that has united the members of the team,” said Amin.
Despite it being difficult to manage time between studies and practise, the players have formed a strong team and believe they can challenge any competitor in the tournament.
“Though many of our players are in Class 10, we are able to spare time to practise. We are aiming to win the trophy and are confident that a well-coordinated effort will see us through,” said Amin.
Grand Omaxe FC players have charted out a plan for the tournament and are confident that they can take on any team with their football skills and hardwork.
But the team members are also aware of their weaknesses and are working hard to improve.
“We lack in defence and it is the area where we need to improve a lot. I will say that our team has a very good chance of winning this tournament if we give our best,” said Robin, the captain of the team.
The team: Robin Singh (captain), Pranav Shukla and Saksham Thakur (centre back), Hriday Thakur and Tanuj Sood (goalkeepers), Yusuf Beg (forward), Kabir Arora (defence), Rohan Dutta and Arjun Kachroo (midfield).
