PV Sindhu Struggles but makes China Open badminton quarters
PV Sindhu clinched a hard-fought win in her second round match of China Open badminton championship.
Rio Olympics silver medallist PV Sindhu entered the quarterfinals of the China Open badminton championship with a hard-fought win against Beiwen Zhang of USA on Thursday.
In Fuzhou, China, PV Sindhu came from a game down and won two thrilling sets to emerge victorious with an 18-21, 22-20, 21-17 scoreline. Sindhu will play unseeded Bingjiao He of China next.
Seventh seed PV Sindhu started today with a 2-0 win-loss record against Zhang. They clashed twice in 2011 and on both occasions, Sindhu the matches went the full distance.
It was no different on Thursday as Sindhu came from the dead in the second game after losing the first 21-18. The second game was a thriller as Sindhu pull it off 22-20.
The decider was equally well fought. Unlike Saina Nehwal, who ran out of steam in the third game against Porntip Buranaprasertsuk on Wednesday, Sidhu fought every point very well.
Sindhu and Zhang went neck and neck till 9-9. The Indian crossed over at 11-9 and then stretched her lead to 16-12.
Zhang reduced the lead to just two points (19-17), but Sindhu sailed through winning the match 21-17.
