A man was killed and three others were injured as a minor altercation between neighbours turned ugly in Bhadaur town late on Tuesday evening.

The deceased has been identified as Hardeep Singh, 28. His cousin Jaskaran Singh has been admitted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), Ludhiana, in critical condition. Hardeep’s brother Mandeep Singh and neighbour Azad Singh have been admitted to the Barnala civil hospital.

Mandeep said the assailants stabbed Hardeep in his chest, shoulder and neck. “Our neighbour Azad Singh and Jaskaran Singh, who rushed to save us, also got injured,” he said.

Hardeep’s father, Dhanna Singh, said: “A minor fight turned bloody within seconds. My son was about to get married after two months.” Bhadaur station house officer Ajaib Singh said: “We have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC against the three accused – Gogi Singh and his sons Satbir and Gurmeet. They are absconding.”
