Santoor maestro Satish Vyas to be honoured with Kumar Gandharva Rashtriya Samman.

Renowned santoor maestro Satish Vyas, senior disciple of Pt Shivkumar Sharma, will be honoured with eleventh Kumar Gandharva Rashtriya Samman.

Announcing that this prestigious award is being presented to Pt Vyas for his immense contribution in the field of music, Dr Pt Paramanand Yadav, founder and president of Kumar Gandharva Foundation said that the presentation ceremony will take place on October 23, 2010 at 6.30 pm at Rangaswar Hall of YB Chavan Centre, General Jagannath Bhosale Marg, Nariman Point.

Earlier recipients of this prestigious award for the Hindustani and Carnatic classical music genre include Pt DK Datar, Pt N Ravikiran, Pt Brijnarayan, Asha Khadilkar, Pt TN Sheshgopalan, Pt Balwantrai Bhatt and Pt Purushottamdas Jalota. Pt Vyas attributes his success to his guru and santoor legend Pt Shivkumar Sharma. Over the last two decades, Vyas has regaled music lovers across the globe with his performances.

He has travelled extensively all over the world and is credited for being the first Indian instrumental artiste to perform in one of the prestigious event, Mostra Mozart Festival, organized annually by European Mozart Foundation in Venice, Italy.
