Microblogging site Twitter was abuzz with comments, accusing the organisers of mismanagement, and making fun of participants for lifting jokes from reputed stand-up comedians and the Internet.

The venue, FICCI auditorium, also came under flak as it is under renovation. The three-hour delay in starting the contest further angered the audience. “So the guys who host the Golden Kelas decided to host a comedy festival. Except they confused comedy with plagiarism and nepotism,” tweeted Satan Bhagat. Another user, FrowningGlory wrote, “Dear organisers... You didn’t organise a comedy festival. What you organised was a comic-con job.”

The organisers say that the delay was due to the heat outside. “The competition was supposed to start at 4pm but it was very hot outside, so we changed the time to 6:30pm, and shifted the venue indoors. We disqualified a contestant for plagiarising,” says Jatin Verma, founder of the comedy festival.
