Asian Games 2018: India win one gold, two bronze medals in rowing on Day 6

India won three medals - two bronze and one gold - in the sport of rowing on Day 6 of the Asian Games 2018, taking the overall medal tally to 21.

Dushyant first won a bronze medal in the men’s lightweight singles scull event. This was followed up with another third-placed finish in the men’s lightweight double sculls finals courtesy of rowers Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh.

The best finish of the day, however, came in the men’s quadruple sculls event where the Indian team featuring Sawarn Singh, Dattu Bhokanal, Om Prakash and Sukhmeet Singh bag India’s 5th gold of the Games.

The gold was India’s first in the men’s quadruple sculls, an event that has only featured in the Games since 2014. India’s Bajrang Lal Takar has previously won a silver and gold in the men’s singles scull in 2006 and 2010, respectively.

In 2014, another Indian rower Sawarn Singh won a bronze in the men’s singles scull event. India have won two bronze medals in the men’s lightweight doubles scull event in 1990 and 2006.

Dushyant also won bronze in the 2014 Asian Games in the men’s lightweight singles scull event.

India have now won 21 medals - 5 gold, 4 silver and 12 bronze.
