Delhi records its cleanest air day in over three months

The last time Delhi’s air was ‘moderate’ was on December 15, 2022--189--while the last time Delhi recorded a lower AQI reading was on October 14,-- 154 (moderate)-- according to CPCB data.

Delhi forest dept set to procure 5,000 plants to beautify two key roads for G20

Delhi’s forest and wildlife department has begun the procurement of plants, trees and creepers to beautify two key stretches -- Sardar Patel Marg and Vande Mataram Marg -- ahead of the G20 summit, officials said on Tuesday.

After Okhla, Narela waste-to-energy plant in Delhi seeks capacity boost

Waste to energy plants incinerate municipal solid waste to generate electricity. Experts say that such facilities cause pollution and describe them as short cuts in handling waste, circumvent procedures such as waste segregation.

The study found that Delhi’s blue cover shrunk largely due to an increase in built-up area, which increased from 1,216 sq km in 2000 to 1,961 sq km in 2015.

Chill sets in as Delhi braces for cold wave

On Sunday, the Capital’s Safdarjung station, the official weather station for the city, recorded a minimum of 4.7°C, but conditions were chillier at other locations, with Jafarpur recording 2.6°C, Lodhi Road 3.8°C and Ayanagar 3°C – technically entering cold wave territory.

IMD, which has predicted a low of 3°C at Safdarjung, issued a yellow alert for the Capital for three days between January 16 and 18.(PTI)

Forest dept asked for plan to weed out 3 invasive tree species in Delhi

Of the three, vilayati kikar is the most harmful, as the Mexican invasive species introduced by the British in the 1930s in Delhi quickly taking over large parts of the ridge, experts said.

Delhi forest dept orders 400k plastic pots to plant flowers, experts quiz move

‘Different agencies in Delhi have been asked to carry out beautification and greening works as part of the G20 summit. We have also been asked to do the same and this procurement is part of the city-wide beautification,’ said a forest department official.

One-fourth of Delhi’s sewage flows untreated into Yamuna: Report

To fix this problem, the report, which was compiled using data gathered from different agencies involved in cleaning up the Yamuna, shows by the end of December 2023, the upgradation of existing STPs and construction of new STPs is likely to see the sewage treatment capacity increase to 925.5 MGD.

Delhi is India’s most polluted city: Study

On the list of most polluted cities, Faridabad ranks second with an annual PM2.5 concentration of 95.6µg/m3, followed by Ghaziabad (91.25µg/m3), as per the analysis. But while NCR cities rank poorly in the analysis, they have done much better than Delhi to reduce their PM2.5 levels.

NGT forms panel to check Yamuna clean-up drive

The tribunal said the new committee will be responsible for overseeing directions made by the NGT in all previous orders concerning the Yamuna.

At 5 days, decade’s longest January cold wave keeps Delhi shivering

Safdarjung, which is representational of Delhi’s weather, has been recording a cold wave since January 5, when the minimum was 3°C. On January 6, Delhi recorded a low of 4°C; 2.2°C on January 7 and 1.9°C on January 8, which was the coldest day since January 1, 2021, when the mercury dipped to 1.1°C.

At 4.4°C, Delhi minimum falls to season’s lowest

Delhi’s maximum temperature too remained below normal, with a high of 16.5°C -- three degrees below normal

The cold winds also led to an improvement in Delhi’s pollutions levels, with the city recording an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 343 (very poor) as per the daily Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) bulletin released at 4pm. Delhi: As AQI improves, curbs imposed under Grap Stage III lifted
