According to Banda police station officer Satish Singh, they received information that a body was lying in an agriculture field outside Berkhedi village on Wednesday night.

That morning, the girl, a student of Class 6 had gone to the village school for her annual exam. However, when the girl did not return home, her family started searching for her in the evening.

On Thursday morning a missing report was lodged.

Police said the deceased’s family has alleged that a man who lives in the same village and with whom they have a feud following a land dispute might be behind the murder. Patel has gone missing.

The girl’s autopsy is being done by a team of doctors at the Banda community health centre and it will become clear where she had been sexually assaulted before the murder.
