An audio-recording of the purported conversation between Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and a BJP legislator is being circulated on WhatsApp, prompting the Congress to allege that the phone of even Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is being tapped in the State.
The party has questioned how this conversation was recorded and how it landed in public domain. Addressing a press conerence on Wednesday, the chief spokesperson of the state congress, KK Mishra, said that the conversation is being circulated on WhatsApp, and this raises the question that how even CM's conversation is being illegally recorded.
Mishra played the recording which is just over a minute long at the press conference, and said that it was too serious to be ignored and an inquiry must be conducted to ascertain the facts. Mishra even launched an attack at the Narendra Modi government, alleging that the Prime Minister Office (PMO) is behind the phone tapping, as even senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has said that union ministers' phones are being tapped.
"If the CM's phone is being tapped, it shows that the PMO doesn't have confidence on his own Chief Ministers", said the Congress leader, adding that, 'it is a serious security breach, as any private or foreign agency may also tap phones of defence and other vital installations in future". "We have heard the CM's voice so many times, and it clearly appears to be his voice".
Though Mishra didn't comment on the inference he made from the conversation, he alleged that the line 'kiston mein dekha jayega' as suspicion and the BJP should come clean on it. The Congress also demanded CBI probe into the entire matter. Mishra said that there was suspicion that even Nitian Gadkari and senior minister who is member of parliament from MP, was also snooped. Mishra claimed that Congress leaders phones were already being tapped in Madhya Pradesh.
