Al Qaeda's announcement of the formation of an India branch of the global terror outfit has alerted Madhya Pradesh police also.
The intelligence cell of state police on Thursday issued an alert to police across the state. Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, in his video released on Wednesday, has mentioned the names of certain states including MP as main focus area for the recruitment of youths for Indian arm of Al Quaeda.
Besides Madhya Pradesh, its two neighboring states Gujrat and Uttar Pradesh would also be on focus of the international terrorist organidation, report said.
The intelligence officials will be more alert in those regions where banned Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) operatives are generally active and also those districts where communal tensions had recently flared up.
"An alert has been sounded. Though, we don't think there would be any impact in MP of such video or statements issued by international terrorist organization. But, we don't want to take any chance," said a senior intelligence officer at Police headquarters (PHQ).
