Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel always worked to maintain unity and integrity of the nation and if former prime minister Jawahar Lal Nehru had not interfered in Kashmir issue, the whole Kashmir would have been ours, said chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan while inaugurating Run for Unity programme.

Run for Unity was organised here as part of nation-wide programme to observe 139th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel on Friday. The run started from ISBT Kushabhau Thakre Bus Terminal and ended at BHEL Dussehra Ground.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and BJP senior leader Ananth Kumar flagged off the run. Thousands of BJP workers and college students, ministers, MPs and MLAs ran with chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Chouhan also administered oath to participants to maintain unity in the nation. Chouhan released pigeons to disseminate message of peace among the people.

Addressing participants, Chouhan said 'selfish' politics of Congress had overshadowed the contribution of Patel but prime minister Narendra Modi's decision to establish statue of unity to commemorate his contribution in the freedom struggle and uniting the nation after Independence has brought the glory to Sardar, which he always deserved.

Run for unity convener Rahul Kothari said they received overwhelming response from students. The run had put the traffic from BHEL to MP Nagar on halt. There was a large crowd of people and vehicles at Anna Nagar and tri-section of Chetak Bridge.

BJP state president Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, organising general secretary Arvind Menon, minister Kailash Vijaywargiya, minister Narottam Mishra, minister Umashankar Gupta, minister Paras Jain, MP Alok Sanjar, MLA Vishawas Sarang with other leaders participated in the Run for Unity.
