Three of the machines have been installed at the reservation centre at the Jabalpur railway station, while one machine has been set up at the parcel booking office. Similarly, two machines have been installed at the reservation centre at Madan Mahal station, also in Jabalpur.

WCR chief public relation officer Surendra Yadav told HT that the initiative has been taken to encourage cashless transactions. The railways have entered into an agreement with the State Bank of India (SBI) for providing the card swipe machines, he said.

Railways will also offer free insurance cover up to Rs10 lakh to passengers who book their tickets online from January 2017, he added.

The WCR will shortly provide PoS machines at the reservation centres in Bhopal and Habibganj railway stations, while one such machine will also be installed in the parcel booking office at Bhopal railway station.
