Madhya Pradesh minister dies in road mishap

Madhya Pradesh Education Minister Laxman Singh Gaud was killed on Monday night when a car carrying him collided with a stationary truck on a road in Dewas, about 150km from here.
The car in which 50-year-old Gaud was travelling from his home town Indore to Bhopal, rammed into the dumper truck parked near a road side eatery, Indore District Collector Vivek Agrawal told PTI.
The minister suffered severe head injuries and was taken to Bombay Hospital in Indore, about 40km from the accident site, where he was declared brought dead, he said.
Gaud's driver Preetam Prajapati, gunman Rishi Tiwari and personal assistant were injured and admitted to a hospital in Dewas.
Gaud, who was inducted into the BJP government in August last year, is survived by his wife and three sons.
The driver of the dumper truck Santosh was also injured in the collision.

Ludhiana couple held for stealing ₹3 lakh from NRI landlord
Police on Tuesday arrested a husband-wife duo for allegedly stealing ₹3 lakh from the account of their landlord, who is a non-resident Indian using Jarnail Ram's ATM card. He accused Manmeet Kaur of stealing the ATM card and withdrawing around ₹3 lakh over multiple transactions after allegedly catching him doing so on one occasion.

Three arrested with 10 kg poppy husk, 130 gm heroin in Ludhiana
Police's Crime Branch 1 and 2 arrested three men after recovering 10 kg poppy husk and 30 gm and 100 gm heroin respectively from their possession. In the first case, a team of Crime Branch 2 led by inspector Beant Juneja, Crime Branch 2 in-charge, arrested Rajpal Singh, 57, of Giaspura with 10 kg poppy husk at a check post near Rose Garden in Giaspura. Police are currently working on arresting an alleged drug peddler, Harpreet Singh, 28, of Tajpur village.

Lumpy skin disease cases cross 740 in Mohali, 130 in Panchkula
Four fresh cases of lumpy skin disease (LSD) were reported from cattle in Mohali on Wednesday, while Panckula witnessed 54 new infections in the last 48 hours. The fresh cases have pushed Mohali's total count to 741 and Panchkula's tally to 133. A senior Mohali animal husbandry official said the trend suggested the disease was mainly infecting cows, while the buffalo population only saw a marginal LSD infection rate.

HP soldier shoots himself dead in Jammu
An armyman allegedly shot Rifleman Yogesh Kumar dead with his service rifle inside a camp here, officials said on Wednesday. Rifleman Yogesh Kumar was on guard duty at Kullian camp in Miran Sahib area on the outskirts of the city when he shot himself in the head, the officials said. A resident of Himachal Pradesh, Kumar, died on the spot and later his body was taken to hospital by police for postmortem examination.
