Protest of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) students against training & placement office’s coordinator Aruna Saxena grew shriller on Friday as the students organised a formal demonstration against her on the campus.

The students had started campaign against Saxena on Facebook accusing her of sabotaging their placement chances by diverting top companies to the colleges run by her husband. Irked over the Facebook page, Saxena lodged a complaint with the cyber cell of police.

But her action, in place of silencing the students, angered them further, who held a demonstration on the campus on Friday, demanding her removal from the post.

Following protest, MANIT director Appu Kuttan has formed a committee for probe into charge against Saxena. Kuttan said students’ allegation appeared to be prima facie true; therefore he has formed a committee. The committee would submit its report on Monday.

A final year student said, “We would continue our protest till administration takes action against TPO. On Monday, we will hold a demonstration on a larger scale.”

Aruna Saxena, however, said there were some alumni students who were trying to tarnish the image of the institute. “The allegations are baseless and there is nothing true in it,” said Saxena.

Later, a clarification signed by eight students was brought to HT saying that the students have withdrawn their agitation against Saxena and they were satisfied with the explanation given by her to them on the issue of placement.
