Sensing a revenue generation opportunity in the increasing trend of film and TV serial shootings in the scenic locations of the state capital, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to impose fees on such shootings.
The mayor-in-council of the BMC on Monday approved a proposal to impose fees of Rs. 2,000 per day on such shooting schedules. Now, the proposal would be put before the general council of the corporation for the final approval, after which the film and TV serial units would have to pay the sum to be able to shoot within the borders of the BMC.
During last two years, shootings of many movies including Rajneeti, Aarakshan and Gali Gali Mein Chor Hain were conducted in Bhopal. Currently, the shooting for Prakash Jha’s Aarakshan is on in the capital.
During the meeting held on Monday, the mayor-in-council also approved the proposal of handing over the recovery contract for the fees to be charged from roadside vendors. Also proposals on running pedal boats at the newly-constructed immersion site in Bairagarh, temporary permits for sugarcane juice stalls, annual licence for setting up food point at Bairagarh immersion site and others were also approved during the meeting.
Bharatiya Janata Party member of the mayor-in-council, Asharam Sharma, got miffed during the meeting when the proposals were placed before the members at the last minute for signatures. The member said the proposals should be presented to the members well in advance so that they could check them before approval. Sharma said the practice of last minute placing of proposal was getting recurrent.
Sources said another member tried to create pressure on the mayor for transfer of a health officer of the BMC during the meeting.
