A woman and her daughter allegedly died due to gunshot injuries in their house in Kutla area of Katni district. Her three-year-old son, who also sustained bullet wounds, is in a critical condition at a hospital in Jabalpur, police said.
The bodies of Shama Parveen (36) and Jia (12) were found in their house in Kutla’s Ahmadnagar locality at around 1pm on Wednesday, when Shama’s property broker husband Arshad Qureshi (42) woke up from deep slumber. The son, Arsh, was found in a critical state in the same ground floor room. Circumstantial evidence reveal that the mother-daughter duo were shot dead from point blank range in the forehead from Arshad ‘s licensed rifle and Arsh too sustained bullet wound in head from the same rifle, but managed to survive.
“The two bodies and critically injured toddler were found in the same room on ground floor, when Arshad who was sleeping in the adjacent room on the same floor woke up,” SP Katni Gaurav Tiwari told Hindustan Times.
Arshad rushed his wife, daughter and son to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared the mother-daughter duo dead on arrival. Arsh was referred to Jabalpur for treatment.
Primary investigation revealed that Shama was Arshad’s second wife and the couple had two kids. Shama was often having spats with Arshad’s first wife who lives in Katni town. Arshad has told the police that Shama regularly remained ill and often blamed his first wife for performing black magic against her and the two kids.
“It’s quite possible that Shama would have used the licensed rifle to first shoot daughter, then attempt to kill her son, before shooting self to death from point blank range between midnight and early morning,” said Tiwari.
Arshad’s possible role in the episode is under police scanner.
