After teasing us with posters, the makers of horror-comedy Stree have released the trailer of the film. It begins with a village tailor, played by Rajkummar Rao, falling in love with a strange woman, played by Shraddha Kapoor, who comes to a fair during a certain time period.

Pankaj Tripathi plays a local wise man who narrates the story of a mythical ghost who targets young men. She has been given the name Stree, but it’s not sure whether she has returned in a new body or she was always there.

The nearly 3-minute video is full of funny and spooky moments with focus on Rajkummar’s innocence and Shraddha’s mysterious appearance. Director Amar Kaushik has shot the film in actual locations and that gives it an authentic feel. Written by Raj and DK, the film has been shot at Chanderi, a small town near Bhopal. Dinesh Vijan is producing the project under his company Maddock Films. The writer-director duo is reuniting with Vijan after Go Goa Gone. They had also directed the 2013 zombie comedy.

In an earlier interview with IANS, Shraddha Kapoor, who will share screen space with Rajkummar Rao for the first time in Stree, said that working with him has been a dream come true for her.

“It’s the first time that I am doing a horror comedy. It was a lot of fun and Rajukummar Rao is such a fantastic actor. To work with him was a dream come true. I got so much to learn from him,” Shraddha said on the sidelines of the 19th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards.

Stree will hit the screens on August 31, 2018.
