There is a method to the madness that is Bollywood film promotions. Once the media interactions are done, trailers are out and actors have appeared on TV shows, the industry brings out their best weapon – stars promoting stars. So, as Toilet Ek Prem Katha starring Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar nears release, a host of Hindi film actors have been sharing videos playing on the word toilet and reminding us the film is out on August 11. Till now, we have seen Varun Dhawan, Ranveer Singh and Sidharth Malhotra doing this in different ways.
On Thursday, it was the turn of Alia Bhatt to lock herself inside a toilet as Karan Johar bangs on the door. The interaction between the two is as follows: Karan asks Alia what she’s doing inside the toilet, she says he asked her to go there, Karan says he asked Alia to go and watch Akshay Kumar’s Toilet. Not high on innovation but Alia is completely believable even in this badly written script. Now, it is for nothing that she is counted among the best that Bollywood has.
Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Clean India campaign, has been directed by Shree Narayan Singh. Set in the Hindi heartland, it is the story of a woman refusing to stay with her husband if she is forced to defecate in open as there is no toilet at home. It is Akshay’s second release of the year after Jolly LLB 2.
