Ayushmann Khurrana didn't charge a single penny for Hawaizaada

Now, there are rumours that despite having already shot for the film, Ayushmann has also not been paid.

The actor, however, clarifies that he hasn’t charged a single penny for the film, which is based on the life of Shivkar Talpade, credited by some to have constructed and flown India’s first plane in 1895. When contacted, Ayushmann tells us, “There are some films you do to satisfy your soul, not your stomach. Hawaizaada is one such film. I have given a year to the film; have given a part of myself, without expecting anything in return. I would have rather paid to do such a beautiful film.”

Elaborating on the financial constraints, Ayushmann says, “The film went slightly over budget and the studio was unsure, as this one straddles a fine line between commercial and art cinema. But now that the studio has seen the edit, they are confident about it.” He adds, “The dues will be cleared by next week, and we’ll be starting the final leg of the schedule. While shooting, we always say that this film is as difficult and challenging as the making of the first plane.”

Ayushmann is also all praises for first-time director, Vibhu Puri. “His short film, Chabiwali Pocket Watch (2006) was India’s official entry at the Student Academy Awards. He’s a talented FTII graduate, and I'm blessed to be a part of his film.”
