Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap shared the first trailer of Rajkummar Rao’s Behen Hogi Teri late on Monday. Directed by Ajay K Pannalal and backed by Amul Mohan, the movie stars Shruti Haasan opposite Rao.
Though Rajkummar has a comedy-drama film to his credit (the Sonam Kapoor-starrer Dolly Ki Doli), Behen Hogi Teri will be his first solo lead romantic-comedy.
At almost three minutes, the trailer is slightly too long and offers little to tickle the audience. While the comedy is quite average, the lack of freshness adds to the mediocrity.
Rajkummar plays a middle class boy, Gattu, who is in love with a neighbourhood girl (Shruti aka Binni) and is fighting the society’s perception that “mohalle ki ladkiyan maa-behen hoti hain.” When someone named Rahul impresses the girl’s family, a drunk Rajkummar tells his friend, “Rahul naam ke ladke haraamkhoir kyu hote hain? Wo film thi jo, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Usme Salman bhai ki ladki kaun le gaya? Rahul. Dil To Pagal Hai me Akshay bhai ki ladki kaun le gaya? Rahul. Ab se har picture me hero ka naam hoga, Gattu. No Rahul!”
Explaining the quirky title of the movie, Rajkummar had earlier said, “My character is madly in love with her, but since he is from the same ‘mohalla’, they are neighbours, everybody thinks that ‘mohalley kay log bhai-behen he hai, ye toh ghar ki baat hai’. But how, in his heart and mind, he knows she can’t be his sister. That’s how the title comes.”
