But rumours suggest that the detective in his film bears a resemblance to popular fictional detective Sherlock Holmes instead of the one authored by Sharadindu Bandyopadhyay.

Dibakar rubbishes the rumours, saying, "My film is an answer to Sherlock Holmes, and is not based on him. It is an original and is a desi jawab (answer) to Sherlock Holmes in desi language. Byomkesh Bakshi remains the first and the most famous detective in India, and this is the first time that he will be seen on the big screen."

The director adds that the film will have an indigenous essence and is self-sufficient. It doesn’t need to rely on an international detective series. "Why ignore the real Byomkesh stories — some of the most striking andoriginal in the world — and borrow from an English franchise with no desi connect? All the aspects of the film are original and Indian," says Dibakar.
