It has been two years since Sridevi’s comeback film, English Vinglish (EV), opened to great critical acclaim and box office success in India. Yet, even now, the film continues to grab attention. We’ve been informed that director Gauri Shinde’s film is now the second highest grossing Indian film at the Japanese box-office.

The movie has earned $1 million and is still running in theatres.

Apparently, it is inching closer to touching the record made by Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots (2009), as far as box-office collections in Japan are concerned.

"EV released in 33 screens in Japan on June 28 this year, and it is still doing well there. Due to the response it got, it was released in another 17 screens, taking the total count to 50 screens across 20 cities in Japan,” says a source from the production house. Incidentally, Sridevi’s film is the only female-centric movie to feature in the list of the top-five highest money-making Indian movies in Japan.

The actor, naturally, is elated. "I am flattered with all the love and affection the film continues to receive. Once again, I thank Gauri for making such a wonderful movie," says Sridevi.
