In April, the information and broadcasting ministry had directed that the dark biopic on the tumultuous life of South Indian film siren Silk Smitha be telecast only in a late night slot after 11 pm, “when most guardians/parents are available to suitably guide their children/wards”. Balan had bagged the best actress award for her portrayal of Smitha.

The ministry’s decision, which came on the order of the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad HC, raised the hackles of filmmakers. Following their protests, the ministry asked the CBFC to decide on the issue.

The latest deletion is in addition to the 59 cuts made earlier, so the film could be eligible for the CBFC’s U/A rating.

The government is set to introduce separate ratings for films that would be telecast on television. Detailed guidelines are expected soon.
