While not many from Bollywood are even talking about our homegrown brat Salman Khan’s insensitive comments on rape, Priyanka Chopra has finally taken a stand. When asked about Khan’s latest blooper where he compared a gruelling shoot schedule of Sultan to feeling like a ‘raped woman’, she said the real issue is something else.
“First of all, you should be asking the person who made this comment. It is very important for the media and for me as a woman to use our power and talk about the real problem which is happening in India every single day to so many women instead of pushing a controversy for a headline, which is unfair. There is so much reality happening like a brutal rape case in Bihar took place - why is no one talking about the issue. A lot has been said about the Salman issue. I don’t want to add to the noise. I would rather bring notice on real issues ... the real problem is us talking about how to treat our women better in India and how to treat women better generally,” Priyanka told Khaleej Times in an interview.
Listen: Salman says he felt like a ‘raped woman’
Salman made the comments during an interview with entertainment website spotboye.com to promote Sultan, a movie that tells the story of an ageing wrestler trying to make a comeback.
From Salim Khan apologising for his son’s statements to arguably the most-outspoken Bollywood Kangana Ranaut saying sorry ‘on behalf of the industry’ - everyone but Khan has apologised. Salman’s only reaction ever since has been, “Knowing me, the shorter I keep it the better it is.” He was speaking on the sidelines of IIFA that concluded recently in Madrid and was asked to speak more.
Hindustan Times could not independently verify the report.
