When Sanjay Dutt was released from Pune’s Yerwada Jail last week, he was very eager to meet his kids — Iqra and Shahraan. A source close to the actor says that when he was in jail, he never allowed his children to visit him. “Dutt didn’t want his kids to see him in the jail uniform. So, he didn’t meet them while he was in jail,” adds the source.

Although Dutt couldn’t be reached for a comment, a source close to the actor says that it is “with a heavy heart that he avoided it (meeting kids in the jail)”.
“Many times, he desperately wanted to meet his kids, but he never called them to jail as he knew that they wouldn’t have liked to see him in his jail uniform. Manyata (Dutt; wife) helped him stick to his decision,” adds the source.
Sanjay was serving 42 months of his remaining jail term after Supreme Court upheld his conviction in 2013. He was sentenced to a 5-year imprisonment after being convicted in the March 12, 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts case for possessing illegal arms. He had already served 18 months before the verdict was pronounced.
